“I wish I had just two more hours in the day to get everything done!” How many times have you heard yourself or a friend say this? There just never seems to be enough time!
A piece in the New York Times this past July highlights new research “whose findings suggest that spending money to save time may reduce stress about the limited time in the day, thereby improving happiness.” We are pulled in so many different directions, especially during the work week, that when we do have free time, its hard to get geared up for running errands or completing household chores. This down time is when we need to be refueling and recharging. So if something can be taken off your to-do list, why not go for it?
“People who spent money to buy themselves time, such as by outsourcing disliked tasks, reported greater overall life satisfaction,” according to Ashley Whillans, an assistant professor at the Harvard Business School and lead author of the study.
