Infinite Glitter: Contemplating the Cosmic Creations of Jordann Wine

CONSIDERING A NEW PIECE OF ART FOR YOUR HOME? HAVEN’T FOUND WHAT YOU’RE LOOKING FOR? NOT TO WORRY!

Jordann Wine is AN ARTIST TO GET TO KNOW NOW.

DC Artist, Jordann Wine

I recently had the pleasure of installing 6 dazzling pieces by DC artist Jordann Wine at a private collector’s home. From afar, the first thing that grabs you when viewing these pieces is her use of intersecting straight lines to create mesmerizing compositions of geometric shape and pattern. As you approach each piece for a closer inspection, it is her medium, however, that really catches your eye. Rather than paint, Wine uses GLITTER (lots and lots of it) to add color and luminosity to these circular stunners.

Why Glitter?

According to her website, “Jordann has evolved her practice by introducing glitter.” She explores and utilizes “the medium’s full range of iridescent, opaque, and translucent color qualities.” Oftentimes, a feeling of pattern is established through her careful placement of glitter in a gradient color scheme. Above all, the glitter catches the light and creates a shimmering surface that encourages the viewer to interact with each piece. You can’t help but move slightly from side-to-side when standing before these works to discover how each section will shine under the light.

Jordann Wine: Infinite Glitter

Wine first exhibited pieces from the series Infinite Glitter in 2018 at the Mansion at Strathmore in North Bethesda, Maryland. All the works from this series share a color palette comprised of varying shades of gold, silver, and black. Standing in one room surrounded by several of the pieces from the series is particularly dreamy. The color scheme and the repetitive compositions envelop the viewer and suggest the infinite nature of the cosmos.

Wine’s latest series, Deep Space, is currently on view for a solo show at Honfleur Gallery in Historic Anacostia through July 27, 2019.
