Client Project: Luxe Custom Framing for Beach Collage by Artist Jesse Blanchard

Hey all! For a recent client project, I was asked to frame this amazing original mixed media beach collage on paper.

Meads Bay, Anguilla by Jesse Blanchard

The Artist: Jesse Blanchard

Okay, who needs a vacation after looking at this dreamy painting?!! Its by artist Jesse Blanchard and depicts Meads Bay, Anguilla.

The piece is particularly special because my client purchased it at an auction benefiting the people and businesses of this small island nation. Anguilla was hit particularly hard during recent hurricane seasons. And now with a drop in travel due to COVID 19, their tourism based economy has had a tough time recovering.

Blanchard uses a combination of painting, collage, and even sewing in his work.

Though currently based out of New Mexico, Blanchard has lived and spent much time in the Caribbean. He uses a combination of painting, collage, and even sewing in his work.

The Framing: Gorgeous Luxe Details

The trick with framing this beach collage? Usually when framing a beach piece, I’m going for a light, airy, and more relaxed feel. In this case, however, we needed to dress it up just a bit to match the traditional accents in the client’s room. Additionally, the framing needed to have some visual “weight” to balance the thick, dark-toned wood frames already hanging in the space.

Wide white matting gives this beach collage plenty of breathing room within its frame.

I chose a toned down gold frame with a classical pattern. What made all the difference? Wide white matting! I had the framer do a double white mat, giving this piece lots of breathing room within the frame. Of course, I had it all finished with non-glare glass, which is a must in my opinion!

If you are investing in custom framing, make sure to finish the piece in high quality glass.
